Oh, you F.A.N.C.Y, huh? If you follow artists such as Drake, T.I and Swizz Beats then you know all about it. For the several Focused And Naturally Confident Youth that came out today to the F.A.N.C.Y Teen Expo 2011 in San Diego, they most definitely were. The premiere event was hosted by Detour Empowers, a youth development mentorship program which places emphasis on improving the self-esteem and self-awareness of young women ages 11-17. These young ladies participated in an all day program that included workshops focused on self development and empowerment. Workshops included Education to Graduation: Learn Your Way to the Top of Your Class and Beyond; Create Your Success: Define Your Passion, Develop Your Skills and Realize Your Dreams; Love You: Increase Your Confidence and Demand the Respect You Deserve; and FANCY Footwork with Ms. Impeckable and hair by Twylahautehair Green.

There were several local business and organizations present supporting the event. Of those included Ask Nurse Alice (of course!) who provided FREE blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) screening. We also provided hip and healthy tips on how to eat healthy and stay fit. And not only did the program attendees partake in the services but so did fellow vendors, volunteers and parents.

And to top it off, we gave away healthy eatery treats -Subway gift certificates to lucky drawing winners. Now ain’t that fancy!?!
