How to Love with Lil Wayne

For hip hop fans it looks as though platinum recording rap artist Lil Wayne has done it again. Wayne’s newest single, How to Love has hit the radio airwaves with an overwhelming response as he shares his more insightful and creative sides. Wayne who sings on this new single shares the experience of a young woman and how her inability of how to love  has influenced her self esteem and contributed to unhealthy lifestyle choices. I was on location during some of the video shoot in Los Angeles and had the opportunity to speak with music video director Chris Robinson of Robot Films to learn more about the concept of the video.

According to Chris, the idea incorporates a storytelling technique inspired by the film Sliding Doors. The film
starts as one story then splits into two separate narratives showing how a single event can affect the path of a person’s life.  “In our music video we’ll examine the choices our lead character “Maria” makes in her life. We show both sides of the coin, both positive and negative. In speaking with Wayne I was inspired to create something that is beyond a music video. The subject matter is brave and groundbreaking in the genre of hip-hop. A song for the many women and little girls that have been through the struggle of abuse both mentally and physically. Its the first time an artist has spoken with such frank and raw honesty to his audience about these issues since Tupac’s” Brenda’s Got a Baby.” Yet “How to Love” pushes it even farther. The issues have intensified, and so have Wayne’s lyrics. As he speaks, Wayne guides us into these young women’s world so we can see it through their eyes. He is telling their story.”

Without giving away all the goods on the music video which will make its world wide premiere soon, I can share that the Maria who struggles with learning how to love makes a series of  poor and irresponsible lifestyle choices that lead to a dramatic hospital scene where she learns  she has HIV.

HIV leads to AIDS and AIDS leads to DEATH. Don’t let Maria’s reality become yours. According to the Center for Disease Control more than one million people are living with HIV in the United States. One in five (21%) of those people living with HIV is unaware of their infection. An estimated 56,300 Americans become infected with HIV each year. And more than 18,000 people with AIDS die each year in the US. To learn more about HIV & AIDS and how YOU can protect yourself visit www.GreaterthanAIDS.org

So make sure to watch out for this epic music video… and perhaps if the editor was kind – you just might catch a glimpse of Nurse Alice in one of those hospital scenes. And don’t miss The Carter IV album set to be released August 29th. Until then here’s a little something to think about. Shout out Lil Wayne, Robot Films, Visionary Casting and JVE!!!

UPDATE>>>>> Looks like I didn’t make edits but its all good. Just remember who brought you the video 411 first!
